Tai Chi is an internal martial art that moves Chi (Energy) throughout the body, bringing balance and harmony into our life.
It builds core strength and reduces the effects of stress. Its slow and gentle movements make it accessible for almost everyone.
Not only does Tai Chi allow us to escape the daily grind for a few hours, it also teaches us valuable coping skills for dealing with the many challenges life has to offer.
Tai Chi teaches us to listen and to trust ourselves, and provides a welcome change to the constant pressure of having to do, or be something other than what we are.
Tai Chi heals on many different levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. It is all about balance – the interaction of Yin and Yang. When you move in Tai Chi you are bringing balance into your body, mind and soul.
Medical studies support Tai Chi’s effectiveness in:
Reducing Blood Pressure
Improving Blood Circulation and Breathing
Increasing Bone Density and Range of Motion in Joints
Improving Balance and Co-ordination
Slowing down the effects of Arthritis and Osteoporosis
Improving Immune Function
A typical class…
We practice (or as the Chinese say, we ‘play’) Yang style Tai Chi and classes are usually divided into 3 x 30 minute sections;
Warm up - using Chi Kung exercises we get the chi (energy) flowing in our body. Gentle and very effective. (None of that no pain no gain stuff here!)
Form - this is the bit most people usually associate with Tai Chi – where we bring balance into our lives.
Meditation – relaxing our body and mind, arriving at a place of peace and quiet, ahhhhh…
